This event takes place on the traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, səl̓ilwətaɁɬ, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nations.

Culture is Healing is a monthly event by and for Indigenous youth to come together to share our culture and have great discussions about things like holistic well-being, harm reduction, sexuality, sexual health, HIV, and Hep C. This is a gender affirming space, and we welcome Indigenous youth with all identities to join us for Culture is Healing.

For the month of June we will be venturing into urban nature-scapes and going up high for UBC’s Greenheart treewalk.

Taken from UBC’s website:
“The Greenheart TreeWalk is a canopy walkway, an aerial trail system that allows people to journey through the upper parts of the forest. Its structure enables visitors to explore the flora and fauna that thrives in this lofty environment.

Greenheart’s approach is to provide access to the canopy with minimal impact on the trees or habitat. Unlike other treetop canopy walkway systems bolted into the trees, the Greenheart TreeWalk’s design and engineering does not damage the trees or the surrounding delicate ecosystem. Using an innovative cable tension system, the platforms are hung from the trees without the use of nails or bolts. With features such as the “Tree Hugger” cable system and “Kissing Bar” stabilizing device, it is easy to see how the walkway is a special addition to the forest landscape.”

After enjoying the treewalk and the rest of UBC’s wonderful botanical gardens, we will be walking over a block or so to a nearby coffee shop where we will be able to order a drink and a small snack for folks! Let us know if we can aid you with reliable transportation or are in need of childcare.
