Waacking Vol. 2

Due to popular demand, virtual waacking class is back for the month of May!

With roots in Westcoast underground clubs in the 70s, Waacking is a style of dance that is deeply rooted in queer and trans self-expression and resilience. With the glamour of old Hollywood and the funky rhythms of 70s disco, your arms and bodies will start dancing by itself!

This is the perfect opportunity to learn about the history of queer dance and learn a few moves for yourself! You can meet and hangout with other cool queer and trans people while dancing too!

We will be participating in this beginner level waacking class through a virtual platform called zoom.

This is a beginner level class. No prior dance experience is required, this is a wonderful opportunity for both folks who have never attended a dance class and folks who have previous dance experiences alike. Either way, this is great for us to explore our bodies through movement!

ABOUT US

Mpowerment is a space for queer and trans young people ages 16 to 30 years old to meet, have fun and support each other in making informed decisions about our sexual health!

We are committed to reducing stigma related to HIV and to building communities where we feel safe talking about the highs and lows of sex, drugs, relationships and all the things that bring us pleasure.

This event will be taking place on the unceded traditional ancestral territories of the Stó:lō, Kwantlen, Qayqayt, Katzie, Kwikwetlem, Semiahmoo, Tsleil-Waututh, and Tsawwassen nations.

This event is FREE and open to youth ages 16-30 years old.

The will be held over Zoom, an online video meeting platform. Participants will need access to a device with a screen, sound, mic and internet capabilities like a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop to participate.

The event will be facilitated by 2 YouthCO peer facilitators, and a local dance instructor and the private meeting link will only be provided to confirmed participants.
