As the seasons and the systems around us are shifting, our bodies are inevitably changing too. We hope that this practice can help facilitate our rest and healing during these times of transformation.
This practice is very gentle, as we dive into the subtle movements and breath of our bodies. This is perfect for those of us new to yoga and those of us who have yoga as a part of our daily practice alike.
**About the facilitator**
Kendra Coupland is a sādhaka, meditation coach and multi-disciplinary artist living and working on unceded Coast Salish territory, the traditional lands of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, səl̓ílwətaɬ, kʷikʷəƛ̓əm, Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm and Stó:lō people. Kendra teaches Transformational Yoga, which combines hatha yoga, prāṇāyāma, meditation, and bhakti yoga into a single cohesive daily practice. Her lineage stems from enlightened teacher Sri Aurobindo, and is one of non-duality yet steeped in the rich traditions of both Shaktism, and Kashmir Shaivism.
Experiencing the world as a queer Black woman, and survivor of childhood sexual assault Kendra brings a compassionate trauma-informed and intersectional framework to her practice. She is constantly striving to create safer spaces for folks who experience marginalization and systemic violence, to practice self-liberation within the yogic community. In addition to traditional forms of yoga and meditation, Kendra also uses photography as a tool for self inquiry and trauma healing.
Mpowerment is a space for queer and trans young people ages 16 to 30 years old to meet, have fun and support each other in making informed decisions about our sexual health!
We are committed to reducing stigma related to HIV and to building communities where we feel safe talking about the highs and lows of sex, drugs, relationships and all the things that bring us pleasure.
This event will be taking place on the unceded and occupied territories of the səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh), S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), Qayqayt, Stz’uminus, šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmaɁɬ təməxʷ (Musqueam) nations.
This event is FREE and open to youth ages 16-30 years old.
The event will be held over Zoom, an online video meeting platform. Participants will need access to a device with a screen, sound, mic and internet capabilities like a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop to participate.
As this is a very gentle yoga practice, there will be options for those of us with mobility and physical access needs.
The event will be facilitated by Kendra Coupland and a YouthCO peer facilitator. If your needs to access this event are not mentioned above, please contact Bill at: [email protected] for more information.
