About Quillwork

Quillwork is an important piece of First Nations & Métis history because it set the foundation for the beadwork created today. For millennia, First Nations peoples were weaving decorative designs into their clothing, shoes, and items with quills. When European glass beads arrived in North America through the fur trade, First Nations and Métis peoples combined their quillwork techniques and the new glass beads and beadwork was born. -Alexa Lizotte
