Yúusnewas invites you to join us for a day Horseback Riding!
Yúusnewas is an Indigenous youth-led program that provides opportunities for Indigenous youth to connect with each other, build skills and knowledge to take care of each other, and challenge stigma related to HIV and Hep C. We approach the topics of sexual health and harm reduction by centering Indigenous perspectives and incorporating traditional teachings.

THINGS TO KNOW from Glen Valley Stables:
Who Can Ride?
- Anyone physically capable who is at least 6 years old and under 230 lbs.
- Persons with disabilities are welcome PROVIDED they are able to understand and follow instructions to keep them safe in the saddle.
- If at any time during the ride we feel a person with a disability – or anyone else, for that matter – is not safe in the saddle, their ride will be terminated. If you booked a private ride, then the unsafe person will walk and we will escort them back. But if it is a group ride, then the ride must continue on without the unsafe rider. That rider (and caregiver, if appropriate) will walk themselves back to the start of the ride OR to a road where their driver can pick them up, whichever is closest.
- Please feel free to call or text us at 778-710-1941 if you’re not sure whether you or the person you’d would like to bring is capable of going on a trail ride. We have been doing this for a long time and have taken many riders of differing abilities on wonderful trail rides – we’re glad to talk it over with you.
What to wear?
- Jeans or other long pants.
- Close-toed shoes with a low heel, like a cowboy boot or other leather boot with a low heel; rubber boots; light hikers (not too bulky or they won’t fit through the stirrups); or running shoes.
- No sandals, flip-flops, high heels or flat-bottomed skate shoes/fashion sneakers – a low heel helps keep you safe in the saddle.
- Light hikers are fine but no heavy hiking boots.
- Bring your own helmet or borrow one of ours for free, should you want one (helmets mandatory if under 18 years old)

PLEASE RSVP FOR YOURSELF. IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO JOIN, PLEASE SEND THEM THE RSVP LINK. THIS EVENT HAS LIMITED SPACES AVAILABLE. IF YOU RSVP AND CAN NO LONGER ATTEND, PLEASE CONTACT US, SO WE CAN OFFER ANOTHER YOUTH THE OPPORTUNITY.
EVERYONE NEEDS TO SIGN A WAIVER!
IF YOU ARE UNDER 18 YEARS OLD, YOU NEED YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN TO SIGN YOUR WAIVER.
PLEASE SIGN AND EMAIL YOUR WAIVER TO [email protected]
We hope to see you there! :)
We work with Indigenous nations across what is colonially called British Columbia to support Indigenous youth. Our physical office is based on the unceded, ancestral, and current territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh people.
Yúusnewas connects with Indigenous youth through group programming, including workshops (in-person and online), drop-in cultural programming, and an annual film making workshop! We also connect with youth on Facebook and Instagram. Our programming focuses on youth from 14 to 29 years old.
