This information has been written by youth living with Hep C to share accurate, up-to-date information with other youth who may have Hep C, or many come into contact with Hep C.

Hep C is a curable virus that impacts our livers!

Hepatitis is made up of two root words: hepat (liver) + itis (inflammation)

Hep C is a virus carried in the blood that impacts our livers. The liver is the largest internal organ we have, it helps us fight infections, cleans our blood, and has hundreds of other functions. We can't live without it.

Hep C is different from Hep A & B. Hepatitis A and B both have vaccines, which we can often access at no cost as youth! There is no vaccine for Hep C, but today's medications can cure Hep C with minimal side effects.

Information about this resource

Our team of young leaders first published a Hep C resource, The Hep C Handbook, in 2013. With support from Gilead Sciences and the Public Health Agency of Canada, we updated the booklet with youth living with Hep C in 2018, to include updated information that Hep C is curable. This fun pamphlet that covers the basics of Hep C transmission, testing, and treatment, and features YouthCO's robots. If you would like to get print copies, get in touch with us!
