Youth 2 spirit sweat

Join us for our youth two-spirit sweat! 

We will be coming together at 10:30am at 100 Mathias Road, North Vancouver. Please note that if you are driving yourself to the event that there is no parking at this address and we kindly ask that you park near by, and walk to the event. Once you reach the address, there is a yellow gate across the street, and we will be through and to the left of the gate. Yuusnewas staff will be on site early to direct attendees, and be in contact with any lost souls.

What?

Our ceremony will be led by Bonaventure Fabian, an esteemed local Two-Spirit Elder. Our Firekeeper will be Stacy Gallagher, who has worked with Bon for multiple years holding ceremonies just like this one. As a Two-Spirit Elder, Bon doesn't expect dress codes, so youth are encouraged to wear something loose, breathable and comfy. Such as, nightshirts, loose dresses, or looses shorts. Something you can sweat in!

We are also expected to bring our own towels/blankets to sit and sweat on, Yuusnewas will try and bring some extras, so don't worry too much if you forget! We also encourage everyone to bring reusable water bottles.

Bon encourages youth to take care of themselves 24 hours before the sweat, however that may look for individuals. It is suggested to be aware of any substance use, and make sure you are drinking lots of water and electrolytes. We will be in an enclosed, sacred space, so please keep that in mind and start the personal ceremonial work the day before. We encourage hearty meals the day and night before, as we will be fasting until after the sweat, where there will be a feast waiting for us! Take care of your bodies, however that looks for you, and please come as you are. This is a space for healing and community, we will welcome you and want to hold space for you, your needs and your spirit. 

We'd also like to let youth know that if you don't want to enter the sweat lodge, you are more than welcome to come and hang out, outside with the Firekeeper and engage with the ceremony however you are able! Please come and feat, come chill, or if you are interested and able, become a Firekeeper! Bon is always looking for volunteers for ceremony support roles. 

Please note that no pictures of the lodge or inside please! Pictures outside are okay.

If you are knowledgeable in the making of Tobacco Ties, Bon encourages you to bring that knowledge with you, and Yuusnewas will be happy to give an honorarium to anyone who is willing and able to share knowledge with us.

Accessibility?

-Yuusnewas will provide transportation to and from the event if needed, please contact Tanny or Danielle if you need transportation so we can set up Ubers for you :)

-There are onsite outhouses for us to use, as well as a changing room to store items in.

-The site is accessible to those with limited mobility
