Marisa is of Anishinaabe deer clan with relatives in Sagamok and Cape Croker. She has been a guest on the unceded Coast Salish territory since birth. Marisa is a Yúusnewas educator and has dedicated her life to smashing the colonial lens we all look through to decolonize the world around her. She is a grassroots organizer, activist and mental health worker in the Downtown Eastside going on 4 years. By doing the work of connecting with Elders she has found her own connection to her indigeneity. When not on the frontlines Marisa enjoys cuddling Tao (her cat), drinking tea, eating pizza and watching reality TV shows.
