How to Volunteer!
You're just 7 short steps away from joining the YouthCO Team ...
1. Check Out our Available Opportunities: The good news? We have lots of volunteer jobs! The less-good news? Like a job that only hires when they need people, we only recruit for what we need.
Check out our Volunteer Opportunities page for current recruitment.
2. Attend a No-Commitment Volunteer Orientation: These fun two-hour sessions give you an overview of who we are, what we do, and why we need you. They are every second Monday of the month, from 6:00pm-7:30 pm, at YouthCO, #900 Helmcken St (at Hornby), in downtown Vancouver.
Note that the July 2008 Volunteer Orientation has been moved to Monday July 7th, 6:00pm-7:30pm!
You can email our Volunteer Engagement Coordinator with any pre-orientation questions and concerns, or just show up!
You don’t need to fill out an application form, or to be sure you want to volunteer. Just come down and check us out.
**Our office contains dogs. If you have dog allergies or fears, please email the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator to give us the heads-up.**
4. Interview & Reference Check: Come meet the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator and talk about our opportunities. This is also a chance to ask questions. After the interview we contact your references.
5. Criminal Record Check: Because YouthCO volunteers work with young people and vulnerable populations, everyone must undergo a criminal record check. This does not apply if you are under 19 or are not a resident of Canada. During your interview with the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, you will recieve a letter authorizing that YouthCO will cover the cost of the CRC. Please note that all results and information are confidential and will be mailed to you at your given address.
6. Training: Core Training happens about four times a year. All volunteers must take it*. Each program also has specific training for its volunteers.
The next Core Training is scheduled for July 11-13, Friday from 6pm-9pm and Saturday/Sunday 9:30am-4:00pm. Core Training is our mandatory training for all new staff and volunteers. It introduces you to YouthCO’s values, programs, approaches and gives a new group time with each of our staff members throughout a weekend of games, activities and discussion.
There are ways to get involved before training. Ask us how!
7. Volunteer: You're up and running! Everything past this point will be outlined for you clearly by our friendly YouthCO staff.
Confused? Have more questions? Our Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will be happy to help so please call 604 688 1441 or email us to get started.
