Youth Training Program

The Training Program works to strengthen the capacity, abilities and skills of individual youth so that they may become active leaders around HIV, AIDS and Hepatitis C issues in their own communities.

Trainings are customized to meet the unique needs, interests and learning goals of the youth in your community. Topics may include:

  • HIV/AIDS "basics" (definitions, transmission, testing, symptoms, stages and/or viral progression)
  • Hepatitis C "basics" (definitions, transmission, testing, symptoms, stages and/or viral progression)
  • an exploration of sexual activity and drug use continuums
  • prevention, safer sex, risk reduction and/or harm reduction
  • an overview of sexually transmitted infections
  • an examination of sexual self-esteem
  • an analytical understanding of why youth are at risk for HIV and Hepatitis C
  • an awareness of the stigma and discrimination facing youth living with HIV and/or Hepatitis C
  • the connections between sexual violence and HIV
  • an introduction to and understanding of peer education methodologies and techniques
  • peer educator facilitation "basics" (delivering HIV/Hepatitis C prevention and awareness workshops)
  • advanced peer educator facilitation (group safety, buidling group troup, peer trainer techniques)
  • and so much more!

Our trainers are all highly skilled facilitators who specialize in interactive, youth-friendly workshops. We teach by modeling, so expect an empowering, intense and fun learning experience. We talk frankly about sex, drugs, and associated risks.

Trainings run in length from a 1/2 day (approximately 4 hours) to 4 full days (approximately 25 hours). Our training fee is $200/day, with a 1 day minimum. Additional transporation and/or lodging costs will be applied to trainings booked outside of the BC Lower Mainland area. Our goal is to educate, not to create barriers. As such, partial and full subsidies are available to applicable groups. Please email our Coordinator of Volunteer & Training Programs for more information on applying to our Subsidy Program.
