Forum Theatre Troupe
YouthCO's Theatre Troupe Workshop consists of theatre games, the creation of still images with bodies and a scene performed using Forum Theatre. Workshop participants are then invited into the scene to try to improve or change the situation. Workshop themes include issues like sex, sexualities, drug use and self-esteem.
The Forum Theatre Troupe respects each individual's right to make their own decisions in order to address their specific needs and realities. Through Forum Theatre, the Troupe provides youth a safe space to explore the issues that impact them and generate positive responses.
Theatre presentations are approximately 3-4 hours in length. Our presentation fee is $150/presentation. Our goal is to educate, not to create barriers. As such, partial and full subsidies are available to applicable groups. Please email our Sexual Health Programs Coordinator for more information on applying to our Subsidy Program.
Our Theatre Troupe uses a model of Forum Theatre based on "Theatre of the Oppressed" which was developed in Brazil by Augusto Boal as a way for people to address the oppression that they face from day to day. The idea is that Forum Theatre is a dress rehearsal for life in which people can experiment with different ways of existing and interacting in the world.
